Ephan Bosman studied at the University of Stellenbosch, before serving articles with Ernst & Whinney (now EY) and spending two years with the Receiver of Revenue in Johannesburg in lieu of compulsory military service.
His early work life included exciting projects at packaging conglomerate Nampak as a Project Accountant in the Plastics division and later Divisional Financial Manager of the fast moving consumer goods sector based Tissue division. He followed that with more generalised experience in the direct marketing environment of Study Methods International.
A return to his core financial training saw him enter the Enterprise Resource Planning sphere with the local subsidiary of London Stock Exchange listed software house JBA.
Whilst fulfilling the role of Financial Director, he also project managed certain large projects, most notably SA Trim/BMW Bophuthatswana, a large supplier of leather seat kits to BMW and Mercedes Benz AG.
Whilst at JBA, he dealt with various divisions of Renwick Group and was approached to join the Group as Financial Director. He also became the Company Secretary of Educor, the largest Education and Recruitment listed entity, which later evolved into LogicalOptions.
Ephan’s passion for new media lead to him starting the group’s e-business, Jobfood.com.
After the take-over and de-listing of LogicalOptions, Ephan started a Business Intelligence and Corporate Governance business, concentrating initially on improving the annual reports – a major form of communication with stakeholders – of his clients, which included MGX,Transnet, Aflease, sxr Uranium One and PRASA.
Ephan assisted WIZZIT with projects, which included an initial experiment into very short-term lending to spaza owners and concluding a joint venture with the Royal Bafokeng Nation to bank its unbanked.
In 2008 he started the Personal Loans division within WIZZIT Financial Services, offering short-term unsecured loans exclusively to WIZZIT bank account holders and introduced insurance products to the business. He negotiated the Business Trust grant which enabled WFS to start the Microloans pilot.
In 2010, Ephan assumed the role of Financial Director of the WIZZIT Group and in 2011 he also became Managing Director of WIZZIT Bank.
A strong desire to improve the quality of financial reporting in South Africa, combined with his strong affinity to creative writing in both English and Afrikaans, sparked him return to this passion.
He has recently acquired RMB Holdings, Rand Merchant Insurance Holdings, York Timbers and the Development Bank of Southern Africa as clients to coordinate delivery of their integrated reports.
